Service terms
Last updated: 5 October 2026
These terms apply when you call 118440. They are the contract for the paid telephone service, and they are our published procedure for enquiries, complaints and refunds. Use of the website itself is covered by the Website terms.
1. Who we are
The service is provided by [Registered company name] (company number [Company number]) of [Registered office address], trading as 118440. Complaints and refund requests go to [email protected]. Full details are on the legal notice.
2. The price
Calls cost £2.43 per call plus £2.43 per minute plus your phone company’s access charge.
- Our charge is £2.43 for each call plus £2.43 for each minute, or part of a minute, that the call is connected. That includes any time you are waiting to be answered or are on hold. These amounts are the full service charge. If we are registered for VAT, VAT is included in them. We do not add a separate VAT amount.
- Your phone company adds its own access charge. We do not set that charge and it is not included in our prices. We cannot tell you the access charge in advance, because it depends on your phone company.
- There is no subscription and no minimum term. You pay the per-call charge plus the time the call is connected. The contract for that call ends when you hang up.
- The charge is added to the bill, or the prepay balance, for the telephone number used to call us. If you are not the bill payer, you need that person’s permission before you call. The bill payer is responsible for the cost.
- Hanging up stops any further per-minute charge. The per-call charge and charges for time already connected still apply.
The same price is shown in the banner at the top of this website and next to the call buttons.
3. Who may call
This is a paid phone service for adults in the UK. Do not call if you are under 18. Do not call if you do not have the bill payer’s permission.
If paying £2.43 per call plus £2.43 per minute would cause you difficulty, or you are unsure what the call will cost, hang up. We will explain the price in plain language if you ask, and we will pause so you can decide. We will not ask you to stay on the line. If you tell us you do not want to continue, we will stop.
4. What the call includes
On the call, an adviser can help you find a UK telephone number, for example for:
- taxis, takeaway and delivery, hotels;
- hairdressers, supermarkets, car repairs, car dealers, mobile phone repairs and bowling.
The adviser can read the number to you or, if you ask, try to connect you. There is no standing retainer. More time with an adviser is a new call at the same rate. We do not book the third-party service and we do not take payment for it.
5. What is not included
- We do not give legal, tax, immigration, benefits, financial or medical advice. We are not authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority or the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
- We do not provide the taxi, meal, room or other service whose number you asked for. That supplier charges you under its own terms.
- A supplier may refuse a booking, be closed, or apply its own terms. We cannot override that.
- We do not guarantee that a number is still in use, that a third party will answer, or that every request can be answered.
6. Starting and ending the service
The service for a call starts when your call connects. The price is stated on this website before you call. By calling and staying on the line, you ask us to start immediately, and you acknowledge that you lose the 14-day right to cancel time that has already been supplied. You can stop any further supply by hanging up. Hanging up does not undo time already connected.
If we cannot help with your request, we will say so. You can hang up. You will still be charged for the time the call was connected. This does not affect your rights if the service is not performed with reasonable care and skill.
7. Your information
Tell us if a detail is wrong. We rely on what you say on the call. You are responsible for instructions you give us and for information you ask us to pass to a third party. How we use personal data is explained in the Privacy policy.
8. Enquiries, complaints and refunds
Email [email protected]. That route is free. Do not use the paid number to complain or to ask for a refund. Include your name, the number you called from, the date and approximate time of the call, and what went wrong.
We handle an email as follows.
- We acknowledge it within five working days, starting with the day we receive it.
- We tell you how it is progressing until it is decided.
- We send a written decision without undue delay, with the reasons.
- We keep a written record of the complaint and of the decision.
If you ask for a refund of our call charges, the decision will say whether a refund will be paid, the reasons, the amount, and the date it will be paid. Where we agree a refund, we arrange it as a credit to the next bill for the number that was charged, unless you and we agree another method. We do not charge you for paying the refund. A refund of the access charge is a matter for your phone company.
We will refund our per-call and per-minute charges when the call failed because of our systems before an adviser could help, or when the charge was applied in error.
If you are dissatisfied with our handling or our decision, you can take the complaint to Ofcom at ofcom.org.uk, or on 0300 123 3333 or 020 7981 3040. Ofcom does not decide individual refunds. Communications Ombudsman and CISAS do not cover this service. You can ask Citizens Advice for guidance, and you can go to court.
9. Liability
We provide the service with reasonable care and skill. We are not liable for a supplier’s acts, prices or cancellations, or for loss caused by information you gave us that was incomplete or wrong. We do not exclude liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for any other liability the law does not allow us to exclude. Nothing in these terms affects your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
10. Law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. If you are a consumer you may bring a claim in the courts of England and Wales or in the courts of the UK country where you live.
